Moris Mai

Essay film

(work in progress)

“Isaura is 16 years old. Domingas recently turned 17.

They will be new mothers in a building without running water, and where today the light has been missing for almost two hours.

They reached to the health center, and will be accompanied. The two midwives, Ivonia and Joaozinha, are there, ready to them.

Today the deliveries are made in the building. The midwives will not have to take with themselves, in the lap, the little metal suitcase, with few medical instruments and even fewer options, in a motorcycle or a pick up, to one of the many villages scattered along the slopes.

The girls who will be born, Amelia and Saturnina, arrive during a cold night in the far reaches of the mountains of East Timor."
